Roles and what each person sees
Teachers, heads of department, heads of year, senior leaders and trust leads.
The menu follows the person. A teacher sees teaching tools; a head of year sees their year group; a deputy head sees the school. Someone with two roles, such as a teacher who is also head of year, gets both sets of items.
Who sees what
Roles down the side, parts of the app across the top. Hover over a mark for the role and feature it refers to.

What roles change, and what they don’t
Roles decide the menu, the landing page and who may change what. They do not hide data inside the school: a teacher who is sent a link to another class can open it, as they could look at a shared spreadsheet today. Schools generally want staff to be able to see the whole picture.
Data never crosses between schools. Each school’s data is walled off in the database itself, not just in the screens, and that is tested automatically every time the app is built. See Data and privacy.
