Data and privacy
Where data comes from, who can see it, and what we never store.
Where the data comes from
- Students, classes and staff come from the school’s MIS (such as SIMS or Arbor) through Wonde, which most MIS suppliers already work with. The app syncs every night before school and hourly during the school day, so new students and class changes appear without anyone typing them in.
- Marks are entered by teachers.
- Targets come from the school, by upload or by hand.
- Paper structures and grade boundaries come from the exam boards’ published documents.
Who can see what
- Each school’s data is walled off in the database itself, not just hidden on screen. Every query is checked against the signed-in person’s school, and automated tests prove that one school cannot read another’s data every time the app is built.
- Staff see their own school. Their role decides the menu and what they can change; see Roles.
- Trust leads see totals per school and subject, never individual students from another school.
- Families see only their own children, and only what staff have published.
What we never store
- Exam papers or mark schemes: only their structure and a link. See Past papers.
- Students’ written answers. Marks only.
A record of changes
Each mark change is recorded with who made it and when, and every spreadsheet import is kept. Nothing is silently overwritten.
AI
The core product uses no AI. Optional AI features, and the safeguards around them, are described in Licensing and pricing (draft).
