Leader views

Subject, year group, school and trust.

Subject (heads of department)

My subject (or Subjects for senior leaders) lists each tracker. Each opens on its analysis:

  • classes compared on working-at, target and the share at 4+ and 5+;
  • the grade distribution on working-at and on predicted grades;
  • groups compared (Pupil Premium, SEN, EAL, gender), each beside the rest of the year;
  • predictions to check: students predicted two or more grades above working-at;
  • topics across mocks: the share of marks the year group gained in each part of the course, mock by mock, with the three weakest topics on the latest mock and the students who most need each (see below);
  • the mocks this year, each linking to its results.

Topics across mocks

Every question on a paper carries a topic. Different papers rarely ask the same question, so maths topics roll up to the six areas of the GCSE course (Number; Algebra; Ratio, proportion and rates; Geometry and measures; Probability; Statistics), and English uses its reading and writing skills, which every paper repeats. Each cell is the share of available marks gained; a blank cell means that mock didn't test it. Read across a row to see whether a topic is improving, for example after it has been retaught. Each class page has the same view for that class alone.

From here heads of department reach the tracker’s grading settings, its reports and the Sisra export.

Year group (heads of year)

One page for a year group across every subject:

  • English and maths: how many are at 4+ and 5+ in both.
  • Closest to 4+ in both and closest to 5+ in both: students with the grade in one subject but not the other, or one grade off in both. These are the intervention groups heads of year build.
  • Every student: one row per student, one column per subject, each cell the working-at grade coloured against target. Sort by “subjects below target” to find students struggling across the board; filter by class, Pupil Premium, SEN and group.

School (senior leaders)

The headline every head teacher and governor asks for, built for the deputy head or data lead:

  • the share of each year group on track for 4+ and 5+ in both English and maths, on working-at and on predicted grades, against target;
  • the gaps for Pupil Premium, SEN, EAL and gender;
  • each subject compared;
  • what has moved since the last data collection.

English counts the better of English Language and English Literature, as in the Department for Education’s measure.

Trust

For trust leads: every school side by side for each year group and subject, on the same specification and boundaries. The menu shows the trust and the school the lead belongs to; their own school is marked Yours and keeps one colour throughout the page. Each panel compares the share at 4+, at 5+ and at or above target as a chart, then a table with working-at, target, the Pupil Premium and SEN gaps at 4+, and where students sit against target.

Only totals cross between schools: no student's name or mark leaves their school, and a gap is left blank when fewer than five students are on either side of it, so nobody can be picked out.
